Oh god.

Yes, i realise the irony that the first thing I did was log onto LJ to rant about this, on a friday evening no less, but i am a geek.

I just started watching the first episode of the IT crowd on channel4.com, to appeal to geeks they're airing it online the week before they show it properly.

It is terrible and is pissing me off already. I know shinyshiny said it was "a bit contrived", but jesus they were being nice. It is REALLY REALLY BAD! i have watched the first ten minutes and i can't watch it any more.

First thing, the canned laughter. seriously, i hate canned laughter. i know when to laugh, thank you very much.

and the stereotypes! i hoped it would be funny, the first of the IT crowd you see is wearing a RTFM tshirt, you know? inner geek joke. no, he's just a Fin' idiot. and the other one, the ubergeek, who got a delivery from amazon.com, both the child's and adult's copies of the new harry potter, "so he can check for inaccuracies" WTF? not funny. that is the most obvious fandom joke. and they portray these guys as completely lacking in the talking to women skillz, but i know many geeks who can easily talk to women. OK, maybe just a couple, but they still can. and i know one who is very good at it.

and the main thing that bummed me out? the girl who gets hired, knows fuck all about computers? and is the first girl they're ever had down there. i felt like my geek status was being disrespected! the geek jokes weren't aimed at me, i should be one of the girls, who thought these guys were lame.

oh i'm pissed off! girls are geeks too, and online you can totally see this!!!! just look at the action shots on thinkgeek.com!!! i can't believe this show can be so shit and sexist. i'm gonna try and watch the rest of it, but i am not a happy geek.
